Whilst Australian Jesuit News is a fortnightly publication, with the many changes we are called to navigate at this time, I wanted to share with you, in a timely way, some of the many and creative ways in which we as a Province are responding and continue to serve the community. We have therefore decided to circulate this additional ‘Special edition’ of the newsletter. The next edition will be distributed next Wednesday in accordance with our regular editorial calendar.
I am heartened by the many stories of Jesuit ministries working together and finding new ways to serve the community at this time. Some of these are shared in the stories in this edition, others in the page on our website, which we continue to update as new information comes to hand. The range of new offerings includes new ways of distributing material aid to the most vulnerable, the provision of digital RE teaching resources, retreats, and online Masses, including those for migrant communities. Please share these things with those whom you feel will find them of value.
The changes we face each day continue to challenge our decision making and priorities for response.
Discernment is at the heart of our Ignatian way, but not to be presumed easy, quick or simple. Yet the pace at which the world around us changes and our need to be nimble in the way we respond is a tension we not only hold but also need to navigate. There are times to rest and wait, times to decide and move.
I hope you find inspiration in the content of this special edition of Australian Jesuit News, and encourage you to contact us with your ideas about how we might best adapt to continue to serve you our community during this time.
