 JOURNEYING WITH YOUTH

Fr Quyen Vu SJ, Australian Provincial

Educating for human excellence, in Jesuit education, begins with care for the individual student. Our care is grounded in a desire for the good of each student. We want them to flourish in their time at school and as they go out into the world.

We want our students to pursue excellence across the whole range of human endeavour. We want them to discover their gifts, talents and passions. Jesuit education is intellectually engaging and rigorous and it is complemented by engagement in music, drama, sport, the visual arts and design. We want our students to hone their skills with the best possible support. Through exploration, discovery, and growth, they develop their unique talents, empowering them to make meaningful contributions to the world.

At the heart of our hope for our students’ flourishing is that they will be people of conscience, equipped to engage in the world with moral commitment. We seek to form students whose moral commitments will be grounded in the dignity of the human person and the common good of all. Essential to our education is providing students with opportunities to express these moral commitments practically. We support them to go out to those on the margins.

Human excellence finds its expression when the full use of a person’s gifts is joined with moral commitment and a faithful seeking of God’s call. Faith is central to our understanding of human excellence. We recognise that each student is at a different stage in their faith journey. As educators, our role is to meet students wherever they are on their journey, and through our guidance and presence, invite them to discover the profound value of a relationship with Jesus Christ. Christ is the ultimate model of human excellence, embodying a life of service lived to the fullest.
