“Communication is an indispensable life-wire of any organisation. It enhances transparency, builds trust and fosters a sense of belonging,” said Fr Chukwuyenum Afiawari SJ (pictured above) in an interview with Province Communications Officer Janark Gray, published on our website on 23 September.
Preferring to be called “Chuks”, he had recently taken on the role of Director of the Communications Office at the General Curia in Rome, saying, “This pivotal role involves the dissemination of information, fostering connections and ensuring effective communication with the Society.”
He explained that he has a strong bond with Australia, having done his tertianship in Sydney. In his teenage years, he says, “I admired how the Jesuits discharged their ministries”. Having first worked as an intern in a bank, he then decided that “following the pathway of the Jesuits was the clear route to take” and entered the Society in 1987.
