Prayers for Haiti

haitibabyThe Australian Jesuits offer their prayers and support to the thousands of families affected by the tragic earthquake in Haiti. We join the rest of the Church in mourning all those who have perished, including Port-au-Prince Archbishop Serge Miot.

Jesuits in Haiti, along with staff from Jesuit Refugee Service, are contributing to the relief efforts in the country. Jesuit Mission has launched an appeal to provide funds for their efforts. Read more.

American Jesuit Fr Pedro Sanchez says the deterioration of law and order, and the loss of vital government infrastructure, are two of the biggest issues facing the country. Read more.

Vietnamese community servant honoured

altAustralian Jesuit Fr Nguyen Duc Thu of Richmond has been given a Queen's Birthday Honour to acknowledge his long-standing service to Australia's Vietnamese community.

Fr Thu became a Member of the Order of Australia in the General Division on 8 June. The Australian Jesuits congratulate him on this honour, and are grateful for his steadfast efforts to serve the Vietnamese community. Click here for more.

 

Father Edward Norbert Olsen SJ (1930-2009)

Jesuit Social Services Annual Dinner

More than 450 people turned out for the Jesuit Social Services Annual Fundraising Dinner on 28 March 2009. Speaking on the night, CEO Julie Edwards spoke about the organisation's track record of engaging with communities by building relationships.

Prayers for families affected by tragedy

Firefighter.jpgThe Australian Jesuit Province offers its prayers for families affected by the bushfire tragedy in Victoria.

Fr Andrew Hamilton SJ says words like courage, generosity, prudence, empathy, compassion and solidarity come to mind when reflecting on the response of those involved in defending homes and livelihoods. Read more.

Dance Together for Peace

A dance troupe from Cambodia will be performing in Australia early next year, in a tour to foster friendship and introduce the Jesuit Mission-assisted work that is taking place in a country recovering from decades of war.

Some 13 young dancers, mostly 17 and 18 years of age, accompanied by singers, musicians, dance teachers, chaperones and instructors will visit and perform in Sydney, Brisbane, Adelaide, Sevenhill in the Clare Valley and Melbourne in March and April 2008 at schools, parish halls and in public arenas.
